Place:

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio Missions Double AA Stadium

Charitable Cause:
Wounded Warriors - Sports USA (DSUSA)
Although we will be taking part in the DSUSA program at BAMC, the charity funds we raise will help benefit Wounded Warriors at three other facilities:
-
Walter Reed Army Medical Center
-
Bethesda Naval Medical Center
-
Balboa Medical Center (San Diego)
So our charity efforts this year is truly national in scope. Because of our reach, we will be helping ALL BRANCHES OF THE ARMED SERVICES

Our host:
KURT BAUER has been helping this cause for over 25 years. He is a disabled vet himself (lost part of a leg in Vietnam), and has two Bronze Stars for valor. Kurt has been nationally recognized for his efforts in helping disabled vets
Baseball:
Thanks to JJ Gottsch, we will be playing all our games at the San Antonio Missions stadium, which is 30 minutes from BAMC. The Missions are the San Diego Padres' AA affiliate in the Texas League. Very nice stadium which can be checked out on the Mission's Web Site
Hotel:
DSUSA has a staff person on site at BAMC and he (also a disabled vet, lost his leg in Iraq to an RPG in 2004) is going to assist with arrangements with the local hotel who helps them with their charitable efforts, so more on hotel later. He will also coordinate our entire program with BAMC staff
Special Note:
There are usually 30 to 45 Wounded Warriors at BAMC at any given time; and others at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. The No Bats vision is to reach out to these men and women and have them take part in all of our events (including our three evening meals) and for those who are able, and desire, to take part in some of the games. We will also encourage them to come and watch and will provide mirrored sunglasses to protect their identity
Why This Matters:
Kurt mentioned that they have never had a group such as ours to reach out this way. Because of that, they are always having to seek assistance. A disabled vet himself, Kurt said, "My heartfelt thanks go to each and everyone of you for thinking of this and extending a hand"
